ALBANY, NY, June 20, 2019 — Regarding passage of the New York State Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, Joe Martens, Director of the New York Offshore Wind Alliance, a project of ACE NY, said, “The nation-leading 9,000 megawatts by 2035 standard for offshore wind sends a strong and unequivocal message to offshore wind developers and related businesses that New York is committed to offshore wind development now and long into the future. In effect, offshore wind has been established as the cornerstone to meeting the State’s newly adopted commitments to reduce and ultimately eliminate greenhouse gases and reach its renewable energy targets. NYOWA looks forward to making the state’s offshore wind goals a reality.”
Four years ago, Mayor de Blasio pledged that 100% of the electricity needed to power City operations would become clean and renewable. Meeting a bold goal can take time. But the next we heard, the Mayor announced, for Earth Day, that it would take another five years and that the City would obtain all of its electricity from Canadian hydropower. Unfortunately, this approach is at odds with State policy and is not the best option for taxpayers, workers, or the environment.
A letter was sent regarding proposed amendments to the Climate Community Protection Act (CCPA), Re: Bill: A.3876, to Assemblyman Englebright and Senator Kaminsky on May 9, 2019. The combined undersigned advocacy and trade associations included New York Offshore Wind Alliance, ACE NY, Advanced Energy Economy, NY SEIA, SEIA, National Fuel Cell Research Center, and NECEC.
