New York Celebrates American Wind Week

Albany, NY – This August 11-17 marks the third annual American Wind Week, a national celebration of U.S. leadership in wind energy production that started in 2017 when wind became the country’s largest source of renewable electricity generating capacity. During Wind Week, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) is holding dozens of events across the country and online with #AmericanWindWeek.

In New York, the Alliance for Clean Energy New York (ACE NY) is celebrating American Wind Week by releasing New York Celebrates Wind Week, which commemorates our recent tour for State legislators and staff held at the Maple Ridge Wind Farm in Lowville, NY.

New York State Announces First Ever  Offshore Wind Energy Awards

ALBANY, New York, July 18, 2019 — Governor Cuomo announced today that Equinor US Holdings and a joint venture between Orsted A/S and Eversource Energy are the successful bidders in the State’s first ever offshore wind solicitation conducted by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. Following a competitive process, NYSERDA selected two projects that when constructed will provide 1700 megawatts-hours of clean, renewable electricity into New York’s grid, enough to power 1 million households. The 1700 MW award is the largest in the nation to-date and the first major installment toward the Governor’s nation-leading commitment to develop 9,000 MW of offshore wind energy by 2035.

De Blasio should rethink Canada hydropower plan

Four years ago, Mayor de Blasio pledged that 100% of the electricity needed to power City operations would become clean and renewable. Meeting a bold goal can take time. But the next we heard, the Mayor announced, for Earth Day, that it would take another five years and that the City would obtain all of its electricity from Canadian hydropower.  Unfortunately, this approach is at odds with State policy and is not the best option for taxpayers, workers, or the environment.
